Inspired by Ella Fitzgerald‘s 8 piece Band „Ella & Her Savoy Eight“, the Pocket Big Band was formed in 2016 by some of Austria’s leading Jazz instrumentalists: players from the famous Vienna Art Orchestra, Austrian Big Band Legend Richard Oesterreicher and Jazz Festival Vienna Vocal Award Winner Karin Bachner. Ella Fitzgerald recorded a series of Albums called The Songbook Recordings, including popular compositions by George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, Duke Ellington and a host of other top composers. These Big Band classics were then orchestrated for Ella by the top arrangers of the time like Nelson Riddle, Buddy Bregman, Billy May and Quincy Jones. Karin Bachner & The Pocket Big Band are now breathing new life into these classic arrangements in an unmissable live experience. Tobias Hoffmann, German tenorist and composer, adapted these orchestral masterpieces in a unique, elegant style. We can’t wait for you to hear them!
